CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — This week on Direction to Success, the Executive Officer for Sea Cadets, Texas Division Matt Garcia, joined our Barbi Leo to discuss The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps-Texas Division.
The non-profit military youth group works with the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard to teach children ages 10 to 18 a variety of skills and promote an interest in the armed forces.
The two programs offered are the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) for middle school aged students 10 to 13, and the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) for children aged 13 to 18.
Participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents.
The Sea Cadets meet regularly for local activities, drills on the USS Lexington, and community service events.
During school breaks, students can receive training in skills such as seamanship, field medical training, field operations, master at arms (MP), photojournalism and robotics.
While federally chartered by Congress, local operations are sponsored by the Corpus Christi Council of the U.S. Navy League.
