CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The USO of South Texas has been serving military families in the Coastal Bend for more than 70 years, and on Wednesday the Corpus Christi chapter received a donation that will help them continue their mission.
More than a quarter of a million dollars was raised thanks to the Charity League of Corpus Christi. The funds will be used to renovate portions of the second-floor of the USO facility at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi.
A small movie theater, student library, playroom and nursery will be added to the building.
The USO helps families transition into their new surroundings.
"Our military families rely on the USO," Executive Director Sarah Banta said. "It's the one thing that every base has in common."
Renovations are set to begin late in 2019.
