THREE RIVERS, Texas — The Valero Refinery is set to start construction on a $12 million administration building that will go up in Three Rivers along Highway 281.
The Three Rivers City Council signed off on the deal Thursday night which mayor Sammy Garcia believes will be a real shot in the arm for the city's economy.
According to Garica, the new two-story building will help beautify and bring more money to the city. The groundbreaking for the project will be May 3, and soon Three Rivers will start seeing many construction workers in the area.
Mayor pro-tem Sally Rodriguez said there would be a higher occupancy at local hotels, and more visits to boutiques and restaurants. Valero is putting more money in the city's pocket which is beneficial to everyone.
Garica said Three Rivers already has a great partnership with Valero.
The Valero Refinery already calls the city home and has always shown a profit even when other refineries weren't doing so well.
"By doing the $12 million building. It shows the citizens of Three Rivers that they're vested in Three Rivers and that they're here for the long run," Garcia said.
Valero will be paying for the new sewage lines going into the facility and other administration fees, so there is no cost to Three Rivers.
According to Garcia, the former administrative building was small, and the staff needed more room so Valero will move employee once the building is complete. The more prominent building will also give the company a chance to grow in personnel if they need to.
Tourist will see the state of the art building as soon as you drive into Three Rivers.
Three Rivers expects construction to be done by December 2020.
