Victim dies from stab wounds, Orange Grove police arrest suspected man

Eric Berber later turned himself in at his mother's residence off of County Road 307 outside city limits.

ORANGE GROVE, Texas — A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred at a hotel in the 500 block of East Orange Avenue in Orange Grove, Texas.

The responding officer found a female victim on the ground bleeding profusely and immediately called EMS. The victim was taken to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice where she was pronounced dead.

According to Orange Grove Police Chief Roy Guerrero, Jr., the 29-year-old victim had been stabbed multiple times. 

The suspect, who police identified as Eric Berber, is said to be the victim's husband and fled the scene of the crime. Berber later turned himself in at his mother's residence off of County Road 307 outside city limits.

Berber was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Jim Wells County Jail.

Chief Guerrero said the victim and Berber had been dating for seven years and just recently married back in April. Police are still searching for the murder weapon.
