CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you caught the last hour of First Edition on Tuesday morning, you likely saw what a beautiful sunrise over on Padre Island.
A slightly less welcoming sight? That would be the beach water that has made its way to the seawall.
Madeline Salinas was live from the Micael J. Ellis Beach and Seawall where the waves were coming in strong, and water was called "unforgiving," by one city worker who has been making efforts to minimize potential damage on the shoreline.
Beach foreman Josh Chapman ran into the First Edition crew as he was checking the beach access roads for safety issues ahead of the rain. He said that efforts to prepare and maintain the shore through the weather event began Monday when crews pulled lifeguard towers, trashcans and other items from the beach.
"We have eight miles of beach to maintain," he said. "We pulled all of our Skid-Cans, Skido-structures and we took the lifeguard towers down as well."
Some visitors and area surfers may be tempted to check out the beach ahead of the incoming weather event-- to that end, Chapman urged people to be cautious.
"The best spot to view [the beach] would be on top of the sea wall, but just, if you want to go out there, just be very cautious. The water is not forgiving."
The rainfall that is expected to fall in our area is anticipated to begin Tuesday night and last until Thursday.
