Corpus Christi (KIII news) — A lot of Coastal Bend residents were on hand Wednesday night as city officials officially cut the ribbon on the newest public park -- Water's Edge Park.
The new park is a 22-acre recreational area where people can work out, play with their children, walk their dogs or enjoy the view.
"This property on the bayfront here is so valuable to all of us in the community that we should try to have that available for all of our citizens," said Jay Ellington, director of Parks and Recreation
City officials and park staff were instrumental in the creation process and celebrated the grand opening of Water's Edge Park.
The revamped destination features a dog park, a food court that will host various food trucks, a playground, and a stage for special events.
"We'll use it for parties and individual activities that people will take advantage of," Ellington said.
Thanks to residents voting for a 2008 bond the park was possible along with generous donations from HEB, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, and the Vishal Bhagat Foundation.
"It will be a great milestone because as we celebrate these dedications, it's important that we then begin to use them and how we use them in the communities," Ellington said.
According to Ellington, it's important not just to place another building in the space because in major cities there's always a big park in the middle and with the scenic bayfront it only made sense creating one with a view.
"Our citizens and our visitors to our community will come down and enjoy this beautiful area and what we have to offer," Ellington said.
