WEATHER IMPACT: Election Day weather improves after Tornado Warning expires in Refugio County early Tuesday morning

Stay with 3NEWS and First Edition as we track the weather impacts across the Coastal Bend.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The cold front moves offshore as the polls are opening in the Coastal Bend this morning. The cold front continues to move east, southeast into the Gulf of Mexico, and conditions will really start to improve after a stormy morning.

Two tornado warnings were issued for eastern Refugio County before 5:15 AM. This was where the a line of thunderstorms associated with the moisture flow into the cold front developed and moved north. The point where these storms moved into the cold front is where we saw rotation on the radar Tuesday morning. So far no tornadoes were confirmed in the Coastal Bend.

The 3 News Weather Team highlighted Tuesday morning with a Weather Impact Alert for thunderstorms, and a low risk of severe weather.

Wind gusts picked up to around 35 mph out of the northwest as the cold front passed between 4 and 8 AM.

A spotty shower is possible into the early afternoon, but as far as the Weather Impact Alert goes, we are not expecting any severe weather, or torrential rainfall the rest of the day. After 1 PM the cloud coverage will break, and the wind will weaken out of the north about 5-15 mph.

If you are heading to the polls before 2 PM keep an umbrella handy for an isolated shower. The rest of Election Day will shape up to feature really pleasant weather with lighter wind, sunshine, and high temperatures in the low 70s. The humidity will be in check too.
