'No you drop it' | Video shows North Texas man pointing handgun at officer before he was shot

Weatherford police said its officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 2:01 a.m. Saturday at the Cypress View Villas.

WEATHERFORD, Texas — Weatherford police said officers shot a man with a handgun early Saturday morning as officers responded to a domestic disturbance. 

According to police, the officers responded to the domestic disturbance at approximately 2:01 a.m. Saturday at at the Cypress View Villas, located in the 200 block of Atwood Court. A 40-year-old white male with a handgun was shot by the officers, Weatherford police said. Police did not disclose in their initial social media post about the shooting whether or not the man pointed the gun at officers or fired any shots. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Weatherford police released an edited video of body-worn camera footage of the shooting with supplementing commentary. Police said in the video that two children were in the apartment, which is shown from the officer's body camera as officers encouraging the older child to leave the apartment. 

In the video, you can hear the officer telling the man to drop the weapon. He is heard on the video saying "no you drop it." The officer then fires two shots at the man, the video showed. According to Weatherford police, the man was pointing a handgun at the officer when he was shot.

The man was taken to a hospital in Fort Worth, Weatherford police said, where he was still receiving medical care as of Wednesday morning. No officers were injured in the incident, police said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
