Learn what sets Texas barbecue apart at Visit Corpus Christi's 'BBQ Trail'

The BBQ Trail is giving locals and visitors a taste of South Texas and it comes with a chance to win prizes along the way.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas BBQ is something people seek out across the country. Here in Corpus Christi, the BBQ scene continues to grow with new restaurants popping up across the city. This week, Visit Corpus Christi debuted their BBQ Trail featuring several local restaurants.

The BBQ Trail is giving locals and visitors a taste of South Texas and it comes with a chance to win prizes along the way.

Owner of Hoegemeyer's Barbeque David Paige said that across Texas there are different techniques used to cook BBQ. In South Texas, the mesquite flavor is a staple.

"We get a lot of people from up north come down to Corpus and they see Texas BBQ and they have to try it because of the mystery of behind Texas BBQ," Paige said.

Since 2013, Hoegemeyer's offers a variety of BBQ, their most popular items are brisket and peach cobbler. Paige hopes the BBQ Trail brings in more people to dine at local restaurants.

"Well, I think it's going to bring a lot more people down here and we're going to be put on the map for one more thing," said Paige.

Full Send BBQ owner Andrew Pena said that although they've been open for a short time, his brisket is well known. He hopes the BBQ Trail will help expose other BBQ restaurants in the community.

"It's easier for people to see where BBQ spots are at. Also at the same time I think every spot has a QR code so you can easily get the app online and you can actually get points and win rewards at Visit Corpus Christi," Pena said.

You can get your BBQ Trail Pass now at Visit Corpus Christi's BBQ Trail webpage.
