Corpus Christi (KIII News) — Students at Woodroe Petty Elementary School got to meet some real-life ocean explorers Friday during a video chat with the Nautilus crew.
The crew is currently working off the coast of Hawaii conducting sonar mapping of the bottom of the ocean. The Nautilus is owned and operated by Dr. Robert Ballard, the man who found the Titanic.
"We really want kids to know that there is a whole world out there that still needs to be discovered, and that as they grow up they can be the ones to discover it, film it, write about it, photograph it," Counselor Kaitlyn Lowen said. "We want to inspire them."
Students got a first-hand look at what the explorers were seeing in real life along the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
