CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
While some kids may spend their time after school at sports practices or music lessons, 8-year-old Murphee Bloom is auditioning for TV and film productions.
Murphee is a young actress born and raised in Corpus Christi. Within the past few years, she’s booked multiple commercials and films. She’s even gotten to meet and work alongside famous actors Jackie Cruz, Paul Wesley and Top Gun star, Glenn Powell.
Aside from getting to showcase her talent on set she brings to set, Murphee says she loves meeting her co-stars.
“When I book a role, I feel nervous, excited but also I really want to meet the people that I’m working because you can make good friends with them,” she said.
Murphy was only three when local talent agent, Lydia Blanco Garza spotted her with her mother at a performance at the Aurora Arts Theatre. There she asked her mother, Zacre Bloom, if she ever considered getting Murphee into acting.
“It kind of just went from there. It was nothing that we had ever thought about. She just really picked it up and really loved it. We told her as long as she wants to continue, we’ll go with her. We’ll follow her all the way," Bloom said.
From ages 3-5, Murphee was primarily doing commercial work. That changed in 2020, when she started landing multiple auditions for feature films.
“On her first feature film, it was very much like ‘Oh okay. She really likes this and this is something that she really wants to do," she said.
Determined to continue her acting career, Murphee says she looks forward to working on feature projects and possibly even earning some awards along the way.
“I really want to keep this job because I feel like I can meet a lot of new people and at some point, we may even become best friends. Maybe if I work hard enough and if I get a lot of auditions, maybe I could even get an Emmy,” she said.
