CORPUS CHRISTI, Mexico City — The YMCA made good on its mission to keep the Coastal Bend active this Sunday as Zumbathon made its return to the gymnasium. The organization whipped up some moves and grooves for the whole family in an effort to benefit its supporters over the weekend. Zumba instructors from all over the area took turns leading the fundraising event and showcasing their unique Zumba styles.
CEO Gwen Ruppert said the fun and energy could be felt throughout the facility, and that she was thrilled to bring back the event that gets people of all ages moving.
"We're all about breaking down the barriers we want to make sure everybody can do the exercises, so everything is in moderation and also we're about family togetherness - so we thought having the Zumbathon coupled with Santa's workshop is something for everyone from all generations."
The YMCA put extra focus on our area's youth- a recent ribbon cutting for 'valor boxing,' a non-contact boxing club for kids also shone in the spotlight at Sunday's fundraiser.
"They are really bringing young children in and really helping with the discipline and encouraging with the self-confidence and values," said the CEO.
The organization is always looking for volunteers in addition to new members.
