CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The sunshine on Saturday made for great conditions for the annual Cesar Chavez Marcha.
Dozens of Coastal Bend residents gathered on the city's west side for the march. Walkers honored Latino icons such as Domingo Garcia, the President of National LULAC, Ramsey Muniz, a Chicano Political Activist and Cesar Chavez himself.
University of Texas professor Dr. Emilio Zamora gave a speech on Cesar Chavez and his significance in the Hispanic culture as well as Mexican-American culture.
"It's not only his memory, it's his legacy and what he stood for, especially now we need to fight for the rights of every human being, and we as Latinos, Chicanos, and as Hispanics or whatever we want to be here to celebrate social justice and peace," said Dr. Nancy Vera.
A rally was held at the Antonio Garcia Arts Center and Education Center. This year's march was sponsored by the Coastal Bend Labor Council.
