KINGSVILLE, Texas — Naval Air Station-Kingsville is conducting hurricane preparedness exercises for the next week and a half.
Wednesday's exercises included a lightning strike at the base daycare during a simulated tornado warning. The drill included evacuating the children at the daycare, and the base fire department set up to keep the fire at the daycare contained.
"The idea is across the entire Navy, region southeast and the entire Navy, is preparedness and make sure we're ready in case hurricanes come to our direction," Rod Hafemeister said.
The exercises are not expected to affect travel onto or off the air station but will include emergency announcements over loudspeakers and testing of air station tornado sirens.
