CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As spring break 2019 kicks off this weekend visitors to Padre Island may have a difficult time finding a place to stay.
The hotels and condominiums on the beach are still repairing from Hurricane Harvey, and most are still not open.
Nineteen months after Hurricane Harvey tore across the island hotels and condominiums with overnight stay accommodations are still digging out. Only two of the seven buildings along the Gulf shore will have rooms available for spring break and summer visitors.
The Holiday Inn on Padre Island is working on getting open by the summer season, but for most of the places that generally welcome overnight visitors along the beach the end of 2019 or the summer of 2020 is a more realistic goal.
If the bad news is that the beachfront hotels are not ready for summer, then the good news is that the people doing the repair work have to stay somewhere.
