Pink Diva Project hosts fashion show celebrating breast cancer survivors & fighters

Proceeds from the fashion show went toward Breast Friends, which provides no cost prosthesis and mastectomy bras to women battling breast cancer.

On Tuesday morning, the Omni Bayfront hotel became the site of a fashion runway show hosted by the Pink Diva Project.

The event was the first of its kind for the organization, which held the runway and luncheon as a way to the celebrate the local women who are part of the Pink Divas in Corpus Christi: welcoming the 9 new members of this year's class, and highlighting the Pink Diva alumni over the years.

The women graced the runway in two sets: casual & formal wear in clothing from Dillard's at La Palmera mall. According to event organizers, the fashion show was an idea by the women who make up the Pink Divas to help serve as a lead-up to their ball being held in January.

"It's a celebration of the ladies so this was just a little practice run. It did include a lot of our past divas from past years we have been doing this since 2010, so we actually have quite a group of alumni we call them 'Big Sisters'," said Pink Diva co-founder, Lyana Gonzales.

"We actually saw a lot of them tearing up today and just really happy to have their friends and family's support them, it's very very fulfilling."

Proceeds from Tuesday's fashion show went toward the local organization, Breast Friends - which operates out of the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation - and provides no cost prosthesis and mastectomy bras to women battling breast cancer. There is no cost for the service, which without insurance can at times cost between $200-$350, but donations are always accepted.

"This is a big deal. There are many other organizations, but this organization [Breast Friends] stays local, gives to local women. There's not only just bras, they offer swimwear - there's a lot of other things they offer," said Pink Diva co-founder, Josh Salinas.

"And it's anybody in Texas, you don't have to be here. If you know somebody who needs a prosthetic bra, they can come to Corpus and get one."
