Driver from rollover crash found at Whataburger, identified

According to authorities, the driver left the scene of the accident and walked at least 3 miles to a Whataburger where he was found by police.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — 44-year-old Wosbaldo Rios has been arrested for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, after being identified as the driver that loss control of a truck, causing it to flip several times.

CCPD was notified about the accident around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver of the truck was intoxicated and walked to the Whataburger at Weber Rd. and Saratoga Blvd. Workers at the Whataburger contacted police because they saw Rios was injured.  It was through further investigation that police learned the man was involved in a truck crash more than 3 miles away from where he was found.  Authorities searched the area and found the damaged truck near the J.C. Elliott Landfill at the end of Ayers near Hwy 286.

Police believe Rios was driving on Ayers, left the roadway, went around safety barricades, and hit a culvert which caused the truck to flip multiple times.

Two other men were inside the truck. One of them died at the scene. He has been identified as 32-year-old Rodolpho Trevino.

The other passenger was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline with serious injuries.

CCPD says they currently do not know Rios intentions for traveling to Whataburger.

Police say the men are not local residents and were working at a local refinery.

Police says speed is also believed to be a factor in the crash.

As of Sunday evening, he remains in the Nueces County Jail.
