Who are the candidates running for Corpus Christi District 4 council seat?

It's just one of two districts that does not have an incumbent in the race, which means a new face will be taking over that position.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There are four candidates running for Corpus Christi's Dist. 4 council seat.

It's just one of two districts that does not have an incumbent in the race, which means a new face will be taking over that seat.

Corpus Christi's Dist. 4 includes Padre Island, Flour Bluff and a small portion of the Bay Area, east of Airline Road.

After speaking to the candidates in that race, one common thread is that they all say they are ready to advocate, for not only the district, but the city of Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi native Kaylynn Paxson currently works for the city of Aransas Pass.

"So public service has been my lifetime passion," she said. "I have spend my life building up to this moment. I've served on a number of orgs and committees. I have two degrees in public administration and I'm working on my Ph.D."

May Mendoza, also a Corpus Christi native, is a well-known business owner in town.

"I know I can do my homework and make sure that I can overcome any objections with my fellow councilmembers and be able to work together so that we can actually get some things done," she said.

Dan Grimsbo is a retired US Navy veteran who worked for Corpus Christi Water.

"I've worked for two different cities for a combination of eight years, so I fully understand how the city works," he said. "That's budgets, operations, procedures, and I think I bring a good background of experience and leadership to the council."

Since Dist. 4 is sure to have a new face on council, 3NEWS asked the candidates about where they stand on the Inner Harbor Desalination Project, a big issue for Corpus Christi residents.

"I am in favor of desalination as a technology," Paxson said. "I do still hold some concerns with the current location."

"You know I have to say originally I was not a big fan of the Inner Harbor," Mendoza said. "I'm still on the fence, so my concerns are of course is it environmentally safe and so those current concerns were mine as well."

"The city of Corpus provides water to multiple cities, counties across the area," Grimsbo said. "And they're looking to us to solve the water solution and I think desal is on top of that list."

3NEWS reached out to the fourth candidate, Eric Magnusson IV, but he did not respond.
