Mayor Paulette Guajardo has had a big night in her quest for reelection. She has earned almost 47 percent of the vote so far with about two-thirds of the ballots counted.

She will now head to a runoff with second-place finisher Michael Hunter.

Councilmember Hunter will finish second with almost 35 percent of the vote. Assuming the percentages stay about where they are at, that would still be a win for Hunter because it would send him to a runoff election against Guajardo where anything can happen.

Isabel Araiza finished a distant third.

Guajardo is the city's 59th mayor being first elected in 2020 and reelected in 2022.

She said she believes that the biggest issues facing the city right now are fixing the streets streets and addressing the city's water supply. She strongly supports the Inner Harbor Desalination Project.
