CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Dist. 1 incumbent Everett Roy led former Dist. 1 councilman Billy Lerma by two votes with all 15 voting centers reporting.
Dist. 1 includes North Beach, Downtown, parts of Uptown, Annaville and Calallen.
This is the second time the men have met in a runoff election.
Lerma and Roy faced off in 2022, when Roy jumped back into the political seat and reclaimed his previous seat from Lerma.
Both men pinpointed water as major concerns when 3NEWS' Madeline Salinas caught up with them as voting was winding down Saturday.
This race may make you wonder if candidates in close races like this one can request a recount.
In this case if Billy Lerma wanted a recount, he could petition for one.
According to Texas law, in order for a recount to be conducted, the person wanting that recount must have lost by less than 10% of the number of votes received by the person who won.
In Lerma's case, these totals are still unofficial, so it's likely he will wait until they are canvassed and finalized.
This is a developing story. 3NEWS will provide updates as they become available.
