Residents near Harbor Island voice concerns on major project

After the Port of Corpus Christi approved a major project on Harbor Island nearby residents are voicing concerns.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Earlier this week, the Port of Corpus Christi approved a major project on Harbor Island.

Construction is set to begin soon on a petroleum export terminal, however, this will require dredging in the ship channel, and nearby residents are voicing their concerns.

The port and the other parties involved are certainly excited about this project, it's projected to bring in huge revenue for the port.

Despite all of this expected prosperity, an environmental group still has hesitations.

The terminal will have the deepest channel of any onshore crude oil export facilities in the nation.

This group says that's where their concerns stem from.

The channel will be dredged to 56 feet and they are worried it could have a negative impact on the surrounding ecosystems especially the fish.

Residents against the project say they will continue to fight the project.

Yet, the project is set to be completed in 2021.
