Shot fired during brawl at Corpus Christi sports bar

Officers said luckily no one was hurt, but no arrests have been made.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Police said what started as a fight at a Corpus Christi sports bar Friday night led to reports of shots being fired.

Officers said luckily no one was hurt, but no arrests have been made.

The incident was captured on cell phone video.

Benicio Peña was having a night out with friends at The Park bar on Friday night when he said all of a sudden there was a brawl, and seconds later a single shot rang out.

"I was at the bar ordering drinks and then all of a sudden people are just pushing each other and I just kind of backed off, and as soon as the shot rang out, I ran back," Peña said.

Peña said he grabbed his friend, ducked and then when things seemed to be safe, they left before police got there. He said he did not know the people involved and never saw who pulled the trigger.

The Corpus Christi Police Department said when officers arrived at the bar, patrons were walking out like it was closing time. They said a witness showed them a single shell casing and officers took it into evidence, but the person responsible was gone.

"You know you should be able to go out and have a good time and not be concerned about someone discharging a firearm within an establishment," CCPD Sgt. Michael Peña said.

Officers said the incident is still under investigation and the only description they have of the suspect is that he is a Hispanic male with face tattoos. CCPD asks anyone with any information to call them at 361-886-2600.
