After finding out that Kingsville police officers had teamed up with Dairy Queen to give out gift cards to help the less fortunate purchase Thanksgiving dinners, some members of the community decided to join in.
Kingsville Police Chief Ricardo Torres said after residents learned what officers were doing to help less fortunate families, anonymous donors began contacting officers in the field to provide more gift cards so they could help fund Thanksgiving meals for six additional families.
Chief Torres issued the following statement Thursday: "We are humbled by the unselfish giving of our fellow citizens to those that did not have the means this year to have a feast of Thanksgiving. If you happen to be one of the more fortunate this year please assist the less fortunate. Thank you to all who have provided to others this holiday and please have a happy and safe Thanksgiving."
