The Live Oak County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide that took place Thursday morning in the small town of George West.

An armed robber walked into a convenience store and fatally shot the 30-year old store clerk, a father of three girls.

Kiii Multimedia Journalist Preston West was in George West Thursday and spoke to the victim’s coworkers and mother and came back with the details.

The victim, Michael Wayne Jensen, was working the overnight shift at the Shell station at I-37 and Highway 59 when his life was taken from him.

“He was shot in the chest area with what appeared to be a .22. Shot more than once,” Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby said. “The cash register was open and the money was missing. Fortunately, we don’t have too many armed robberies in this county.”

Authorities arrested Victor Martin Castillo, Jr. for the crime. Investigators said Castillo once worked at the store. He is now charged with capital murder.

It’s a case that shocked the small community and devastated the victim’s family.

“My son, he’s a very good person. He’s a very kind hearted person,” said Lynne Cherry, the victim’s mother. “He’s a family man. He loved his wife, loved his children, and it’s unfortunate that he lost his life so soon.”

The general manager of the store described Jensen as a kind and gentle man who was loved by all of his customers and coworkers.

The family of Michael Wayne Jensen has set up a gofundme account to pay for funeral expenses. You can donate by clicking here.
