The injection of a stronger disinfectant into the city's water system is working and could result in the lifting of the water boil advisory as soon as Tuesday.

That was part of Friday's scheduled update at City Hall.

Water crews began putting stronger chlorine into the water at the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant at noon Thursday. The mayor displayed a map showing where the stronger chlorine is located -- still mainly in the Calallen and Annaville area.

City leaders are asking for residents help.

"Our utilities director has also called for our residents to use water. We understand that because we are boiling, because we are conserving, we need to make sure that we do use water," City Communication Director Kim Womack said. "Because of the rain we're not lawn watering, we're not doing those kinds of things. We need to use water. The faster we use water the faster this is going to progress through our system."

Assistant City Manager Mark Van Vleck said if the rate of conversion to the stronger chemical continues, the City could lift the water boil advisory on Tuesday. The daily 2 p.m. briefings by the City will continue through the weekend and until it is over.
