West side residents want more signage before 90 degree turn

Residents on Quaile Drive said there's not a stop sign but the city added rumble strips before the turn and a big arrow at the end of the street to warn drivers.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Residents in a West side neighborhood said they have urged the city to do something about a dangerous turn on their street.

Neighbors on Quaile Drive near Baldwin and Leopard streets said drivers have repeatedly sped through a 90 degree turn hitting the fences of some of the homes.

Neighbors said there's not even a stop sign but the city added rumble strips before the turn and a big arrow at the end of the street warning drivers about the turn.

Diedra Martinez calls it home and said and her dad lives right across the street.

Martinez said early Saturday morning a car sped through the turn hitting her dad's truck.

She said just a few months ago something similar happened except the car actually hit her dad's house. Luckily, no one was hurt.

"There's no speed limit signs to let them know and I asked the city about that and they say normally it's a residential speed limit like 30 I guess so that's why there's not one out here," Martinez said.

Martinez said most of the time they wake up to the damage because drivers don't stop.

She said her family has paid $10,000 out of pocket to repair all of the damage from the different incidents just for it to keep happening overtime.

She said she worries about her parent's safety when they walk across the street to see her or the children that play nearby.

Martinez said she just wants the city to put up more signs and for drivers to slow down.
