Hooks get no-hit, swept by Cardinals in doubleheader

Corpus Christi gave up the first ever no-hitter for Springfield in the first game before the Cardinals rallied to take the second game Thursday.

It was a rough Thursday for the Corpus Christi Hooks who lost both games of a doubleheader to the Springfield Cardinals.

The Hooks fell 5-0 in the first game as Corpus Christi was no-hit by Springfield pitchers Cooper Hjerpe (5.0 IP) and Andrew Marrero (2.0 IP). It was the first no-hitter in the Double-A Cardinals' history, albeit a combined effort and in seven innings as part of minor league baseball's doubleheader rule.

The game was delayed for about 15 minutes in the second inning with a strong, but brief shower. Tropical Storm Alberto had previously forced the postponement of Wednesday's game.

The teams will resume the series at Whataburger Field Friday night at 7:05 PM.
