CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fewer people have a greater connection to both the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers than the Ryan family.
As the Astros and Rangers get set to face off in the playoffs for the first time in history in the American League Championship Series, 3News' Chris Thomasson had a chance to sit down with Hooks' co-founder and former Astros President Reid Ryan.
Ryan also serves as the current CEO of Ryan Sanders Baseball, which owns the Round Rock Express (Triple-A affiliate of the Rangers). His father is Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who famously left Houston in 1988 to join Texas, where he finished his storied career.
Given that deep connection to both organizations, it's natural that Reid would be torn a bit in his rooting interesting over the next week and a half.
"You know I'm just excited for baseball in the state of Texas," Ryan said. "We've always believed that this was one of the best baseball states in the country. With my Dad being an owner and CEO of the Rangers and my time in Houston as president, I'm happy for the state of Texas and we've got a lot of really good friends involved on both sides."
The Astros are appearing in their seventh consecutive ALCS with World Series championships in 2017 and 2022. The Rangers are making their first appearance in the ALCS since 2011 and are looking for their first World Series title.
Ryan says he plans to attend some of the upcoming games between the rivals.
