University of Texas, Texas A&M announce title sponsor for 'Lone Star Showdown' rivalry game

After a 12-year absence, the Aggies and Longhorns are renewing their rivalry.

HOUSTON — The University and Texas and Texas A&M held a joint media conference on Thursday to announce the "Lone Star Showdown" now has a title sponsor ahead of its return -- Cotton Holdings, Inc.

With Texas' move this year, both schools are now in the Southeastern Conference. The football rivalry is returning this year after a 12-year absence. The game between the Longhorns and Aggies will be played this year on November 30 at Kyle Field.

University of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts were in attendance at the announcement.

Del Conte said restoring the rivalry between UT and A&M was a priority.

"It's going to be great for the state of Texas," he said. "It's going to be great for college football in general."

Alberts echoed Del Conte's sentiments, saying it was exciting for the rivalry to be back.

"I think that this game has a chance to be the best rivalry football game in all of college football," Alberts said. "I really believe that. That kind of energy, that kind of passion is right here in the state of Texas."
