KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville ended its season on a high note with a 28-13 home win on Senior Night over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds.
The Javelinas (7-4, 6-3 LSC) used 341 yards of total offense and a 9-of-15 third-down conversion rate to grab its sixth Lone Star Conference win and improve to 7-4 overall on the season. The team also honored its 24 graduating seniors, who played in their final game in a Javelina uniform Saturday night.
"Anytime you do this, I've done this for a long time now, Senior Night is always tough for me," Head Coach Michael Salinas said. "These guys have been here since I was here.We recruited Jackson in our first class, Hendo was here, he had spent a year prior to me getting here, and just the fact that the guys stuck with it."
Kingsville was able to neutralize ENMU's slow-moving, option-focused ground game by punching in a pair of early scores thanks to Jalen Brown. The Junior QB took it himself on the first score then quickly flipped it to Roger Hagan to put the Javelinas up early.
Hagan was especially dominant in the first half, at many points out-rushing the entirety of Eastern New Mexico. Overall the Javelinas held the Greyhounds to just 61 total yards of offense and zero passing yards as well.
The second half kicked off in great fashion for the Javelinas, as a timely special teams return by Eli Martinez set the Javelinas up in great field position. Soon after, Hagan would punch it in from a short distance to give the Javelinas a three-touchdown lead.
Eastern New Mexico would begin to make it interesting, as a late surge by their run game propelled them to their first touchdowns of the game. As the Greyhounds punched their second TD of the game in, Demarcus Hendricks blocked the extra point to keep the Javelinas in front by eight.
Needing an insurance touchdown, it was Brown once again who found some offensive magic. Finding Vance Brazile for a 17-yard strike in the endzone to give the Javelinas a 15-point lead. A last gasp would come up short for the Greyhounds, and the Javelinas closed the season out with a victory.
"I'm just so proud of the fact that they were able to finish strong at home and glad that we were able to send them out on a winning note," Salinas said.
