Blitz Preview: Agua Dulce Longhorns

Last season was the Longhorns' first district title since 2005. Head Coach Jason Calvez said that they are looking to accomplish more this season.

AGUA DULCE, Texas — The Agua Dulce Longhorns were district champions a year ago.

The bar is set high as they play in a tougher district this year with La Villa and Ben Bolt coming down. Agua Dulce Head Football Coach Jason Calvez said Woodsboro and Bruni will be a good challenge for them, too.

The Longhorns bring back their quarterback and running back from last season. Calvez said they have a strong offensive line despite lacking depth.

With last season being their first district title since 2005, he said they are looking to build off of last year and accomplish more this season.

"We won the bi-district game in the closing seconds of the game against Center Point, but then we kind of ran into a buzz saw against Chilton last year in the area round and we don't want that to happen again," Calvez said. "So, we're preparing these kids to do better in the playoffs and advance."

Calvez explained that the Longhorns upgraded their schedule this year. The emphasis is on playing teams that will prepare them for the playoffs.

Agua Dulce starts off the season on Friday against Kenedy.
