Blitz Preview: Beeville Jones Trojans

The Trojans are changing to a vastly new offense, going to a spread from the "Slot T."

BEEVILLE, Texas — The Beeville Jones Trojans saw a offseason of big changes despite a successful season last year, but can they keep it going under a new regime?

The Trojans are making a big transition from the "Slot T" under former coach Chris Soza to a spread offense under new first year Head Coach Dave Holmgreen, who came over from Gregory-Portland. But the Trojans say don't underestimate them after they made a run to the state seven-on-seven tournament this summer, which is heavily focused on passing.

Holmgreen knows the Trojans are behind most teams with his arrival in the summer, but the Trojans say they're excited for the energy that he's brought.

"He's very intense and he's making us get after it," junior linebacker Seth Gutierrez said. "We're working harder and the intensity is all the way up."

"With Coach Soza's Slot T, I know these boys can run the rock," Holmgreen said after practice Thursday. "With them qualifying for state 7-on-7, they can sling it a little bit."

Beeville Jones begins the Dave Holmgreen era by hosting Sinton on Friday, August 30th in the "3News Anchor Bowl": Rudy Treviño's Trojans taking on Leslie Adami's Pirates.
