INGLESIDE, Texas — The Ingleside Mustangs are coming off their best season in a decade, but must replace some key positions if they're going to duplicate their 2023 run.
The Mustangs return over half their starters from the team that went to the region semifinal, but lost a couple of talented players from that squad. Wide receiver Jaydon "JC" Smith tied the national single season touchdown record before heading off to North Texas and quarterback Aidan Jakobsohn won the Blitz Play of the Year as a two-way player.
Second year Mustangs Head Coach Travis Chrisman knows you don't just automatically replace that production, but he says his team will once again be ready to compete for a playoff spot come district play.
"We have some guys that are wanting to step up into that place," Chrisman said. "Obviously it'll be hard to replace an All-American and a 4A Player of the Year, but we're really confident in what our guys are going to be able to do this year."
Ingleside opens the season at home against La Feria on the 30th and down the line they close the regular season with back-to-back state ranked opponents in Sinton and Cuero.
