Blitz Preview: King Brahmas

Ruben Garcia has Kingsville in the midst of a program turnaround.

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Kingsville King Brahmas have plenty to be excited about after winning two more games last year in Head Coach Ruben Garcia's first season than they did in 2022.

King returns a ton of starters as they drop down to 4A Division II, seven on offense and a whopping nine on defense.

The new Valley-heavy district only has four teams, so the Brahmas are guaranteed a playoff spot. But the players and coaches say they're not happy with a postseason berth. The goal: a deep run.

"None of our players are satisfied with the guaranteed playoff spot," senior receiver Jasiah Rivera said. "It makes us want it more to be honest because people look down on us sometimes."

"Our goal is to win district," Coach Garcia said. "I told our kids if we're not practicing on Thanksgiving, we didn't do our job."

The Brahmas open the season next Thursday, August 29th on the road at San Antonio Brackenridge. With the smaller district, the brahmas don't even begin district play until mid-October.
