THREE RIVERS, Texas — The Three Rivers Bulldogs are using preseason scrimmages to get used to the triple-digit heat this Summer.
They finished fourth in their district behind Refugio, Ganado and Shiner last year.
Three Rivers Head Football Coach Brent Kornegay took over the team this year after coming from Orange Grove. His message to the Bulldogs when he got there was to compete with class and at a high level.
After Three Rivers made the bi-district round of the playoffs last year, Kornegay said the goal is to go further this season.
"Our expectations are obviously get into the playoffs but we want to play for a while, and we always talk about Thanksgiving football and December football and all those," Kornegay said. So, that's our goal and that's what we're trying to do."
Three Rivers will join Refugio this season in a district filled with teams located farther south than last year. They have eight players coming back on both sides of the ball. Kornegay said that the comradery between seniors and younger players filling roles this season is one of their strengths.
Three Rivers will begin the season next Friday against Falls City.
