CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Tuloso-Midway Warriors have already begun their program turnaround the last two years, but can they keep it going with a new head coach?
Kris O'Neil is now gone to Houston Waltrip after leading the Warriors to back-to-back playoff appearances and former defensive coordinator James Villarreal has been promoted to his first head coaching gig. Villareal's defense was putting up some of the best numbers in the state to start last year as he hopes to continue to build that grittiness with the Warriors.
"I really want to put my own stamp on this team," Villarreal said. "Being more defensive minded, playing complimentary football and running the ball and keeping the clock moving and limiting possessions."
Tuloso-Midway also has one of the best running backs in the Coastal Bend in junior Damian Figueroa.
The Warriors seem to be in great shape to make the playoffs once again with a five team district comprised of a majority of Valley teams. Villarreal will be trying to do what no T-M coach has done since 1983: beat rival Calallen. that district game is set for October 18th.
