Blitz Season Preview: Refugio Bobcats

Longtime assistant Drew Cox takes over for Jason Herring heading into the 2024 season.

REFUGIO, Texas — The Refugio Bobcats saw a longtime coach step aside as Jason Herring hung up the whistle in the offseason to now serve solely as the Bobcats' Athletic Director.

Drew Cox has been Herring's right hand man for over 25 years and steps into the role as the Bobcats' Head Coach. The Bobcats are hoping they don't skip a beat as they continue the same schemes, but they must replace over half their starters.

The season came to a crashing halt last year with a blowout loss to Ganado in the state quarterfinal. The same Ganado team that's ranked #1 to start this season, just ahead of the Bobcats. Those two teams could square off a round earlier in the playoffs with Refugio coming back to District 16 and Coastal Bend opponents.
