CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Longtime Coastal Bend staple Gary Davenport passed away earlier this week.
Davenport served as a head coach for 20 years at six different schools and as an assistant at several others. His teams had a record of 133-90 in that time.
His head coaching career started at Sinton where he lead the Pirates to the state semis and quarterfinals in back to back seasons. He then went on to Carroll, Aransas Pass, Port Lavaca Calhoun, George West and ultimately back to AP for one season in 2012. Davenport lead the Panthers to the playoffs that season for the first time in 10 years.
He was inducted into the Coastal Bend Coaches Association Hall of Fame back in 2010.
The cause of death isn't known at this time. Our prayers and condolences to Coach Davenport's family.
