Miller prepares for massive test in DeSoto

The Bucs will take on the two-time defending 6A D-II state champs Friday at the Alamodome.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's going to be a huge regular season match-up between one of the Coastal Bend's best programs in the Miller Buccaneers and one of the state's best in the DeSoto Eagles.

The Bucs have taken care of their business heading into this game, beating Veterans Memorial and Seguin by a combined score of 97-13. But as they say, business picks up this week with the two-time defending 6A Div. II state champion Eagles lining up on the other side.

It's a DeSoto team that suffered a blow last week, their first loss in almost two years to state-ranked North Crowley. 3Sports' Chris Thomasson had a chance to talk with the Bucs at practice Tuesday to see how that loss changes the mindset this week, if at all.

"We know they're a great opponent and just because they lose doesn't mean they can't bounce back," senior quarterback Trevor Long said. "We understand they're a high standard and we've just got to meet their standard."

"They've got some 4 and 5 star guys and if you can go up there and have some success against those guys in that type of atmosphere, then that kind of gets some eyes on your guys," Miller Head Coach Justen Evans said.

That game kicks off at 7 PM Friday at the Alamodome and Brandon Schaff will be on hand and will have reaction.
