The Miller Buccaneers have one of the more storied football histories in the Coastal Bend. With a win in the state quarterfinal Friday, the Bucs can get back to some of the "glory days" that the area last saw during their grandparents' time.
Miller will be facing Brownsville Veterans Memorial, with the program's first state semifinal since 1963 on the line. Conversely, the Chargers have never been this deep in the playoffs and no team from the Valley has even reached the state semis since 2003 (Port Isabel).
The history that's up for grabs is fitting given that Bucs will be going up against the veer "triple option,", an old-school offense not used by too many programs in 2023. Head Coach Justen Evans says the Bucs' 2021 district game against Port Lavaca Calhoun was the last time the Bucs saw an offense similar to the Chargers'.
Brownsville ISD announced early Wednesday that tickets were sold out with over 10,000 being sold. But a special allotment of 500 tickets was made available on the Miller side in the early evening. Tickets for Bucs fans can be purchased here while they last.
Miller and Brownsville Vets will face off Friday at 7 PM at Sams Stadium in Brownsville. 3News will have coverage later that night at 10 PM.
