SINTON, Texas — The Sinton Pirates are looking to exercise their playoffs demons and reach their first state semifinal in 10 years, but to do it, they're going to have to get past an old playoff foe.
#2 Sinton comes in at a perfect 13-0 and hasn't really been challenged yet so far in the playoffs. That'll change Friday when the Pirates take on fourth-ranked Wimberley, a Texans team that sent them home last year in this same round in emphatic fashion, 38-13.
The Pirates have had an entire year to think about that game and at Thursday's walkthrough they said it would be special to be the team that brought a region title back to Sinton and to do it against Wimberley would definitely add a little extra something.
"It drives you and there's only one team that goes home happy at the end of the year," Sinton Head Coach Mike Troutman said. "We were taken out by Wimberley last year and it is a drive. It is a chip on our shoulder and it is something that pushes us every day because that feeling sticks with you."
Sinton and Wimberley face off in the top five showdown Friday at 7:30 PM at San Antonio's Harlandale Memorial Stadium. 3News will have highlights after college football.
