Friendly softball rivals set to become teammates in college

Calallen's Brookelynn Meador and Tuloso-Midway's Demiree Stafford each signed Thursday to join UTSA.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two former teammates-turned-rivals are set to join the same team yet again, this time on the collegiate level.

Calallen catcher Brookelynn Meador and Tuloso-Midway infielder Demiree Stafford each signed Thursday to join UTSA softball. The two were teammates in travel ball prior to their high school days before joining rival programs.

Calallen is coming off back-to-back state championships and will be looking for a third in Meador's senior year, while Stafford's Cherokees are looking to upend the Ladycats atop the district.
