Calallen baseball sweeps Boerne, advances to state

The Wildcats are bound for the state semifinal for the time since 2011.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Calallen Wildcats' baseball team just did what their softball team has already accomplished: book a spot in the state tournament.

#7 Calallen topped #15 Boerne 4-3 Friday in Game 2 of the series at Whataburger Field. Chase Lynch poked an RBI single that just snuck past the shortstop.

The 'Cats had gotten two runs in the first inning off RBI hits from Blake Quinn and Matt Lopez. Drayton Mitchell was solid on the mound, eventually getting pulled in the top of the seventh inning before the Greyhounds rallied to tie the game 3-3.

The Wildcats will play in the 4A State Semifinal next Wednesday at either 1 or 4 p.m. at the University of Texas (UFCU Disch-Falk Field). That opponent and start time should be announced by the UIL this weekend.
