The high school baseball playoffs are on the horizon next week and a tough District 31-4A ended its regular season with a pair of pitchers duel classics.
Robstown upset #3 Tuloso-Midway 1-0 in nine innings. Despite the win in the final game of Elias Vasquez's coaching career, the Pickers missed the playoffs after Bishop beat Kingsville King 13-1 to claim the final postseason berth. Vasquez announced earlier this month that he is retiring as baseball coach.
#4 Calallen also fell on the night, 1-0 to playoff-bound Alice. The Coyotes got a walkoff single from Landon Rodriguez in the eighth inning. The Wildcats' loss gave Tuloso-Midway its first ever outright district title and allowed Alice to avoid a tiebreaker game with Bishop.
