ROCKPORT, Texas — The Rockport-Fulton Pirates gave their student manager a memory he'll never forget on Tuesday.
The Pirates allowed senior Carson Bhakta to pinch hit and get four at-bats against the West Oso Bears. Bhakta ignited the Rockport-Fulton crowd with a hit in his final at-bat, which also drove in a run.
"I just wanted to put one in play," Bhakta told 3News' Chris Thomasson Wednesday, "I thought I was going to be out, but when I saw it get past him, I was just excited to get on base and get a hit."
"It was awesome," Rockport-Fulton Head Coach Tudi Elizondo said. "Probably one of the best times I've ever had as a coach."
Bhakta pinch hit for Coach Elizondo's son Isaiah, who is good friends with Bhakta. The Pirates would go on to win the game 21-0.
Bhakta is also on pace to be the school's valedictorian. He says is wants to be a finance major and is on Rice University's waitlist, but has also been accepted to the University of Texas.
