Ray Texans baseball looks to seniors to take over for longtime staples

The Texans reach the region semifinals last season, but lost some longtime varsity starters.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The weather couldn't stop the Ray Texans' baseball team from hitting the practice field Tuesday with Orlando Ruiz's team shifting over to the turfed football field.

The Texans are coming off a run to the region semifinal before falling to eventual region champion Boerne Champion. But Ray lost some big name seniors in Jack Bell and Keevyn Goss among others and Coach Ruiz knows it'll be up to some fresh faces to help the 20th-ranked Texans once again make a deep playoff run.

Ray is in District 29-5A, which is once again split into zones. The Texans are once again one of the favorites, along with 7th ranked Veterans Memorial, who the Texans fell to in last year's district championship series. Victoria East is also expected to be a contender in the North Zone.

The 20th-ranked Ray Texans are out on the turf football field today for practice with the baseball field a little soaked. I’ll have a season preview with Coach Orlando Ruiz’s team coming up at 6 PM. Sports Blitz - KIII 3 News KIII 3 News #3SportsBlitz
