CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Tuloso-Midway Cherokees are always good for a deep playoff run and 2023 was no different for Coach Sally DeLeon's team.
The Cherokees reached the region quarterfinal before being swept by district rival and eventual 4A state champion Calallen. T-M lost seven seniors off that team and so it'll be up to some new starters to fill that void.
Tuloso-Midway replaced both softball and baseball's natural grass playing surfaces with new turf over the last two and a half months. The construction meant plenty of practices away from the Cherokees' home stadium, including up in Portland. The returners say that made it a bit more difficult for the newcomers, but it's an issue they feel like they've overcome heading into the season next week.
T-M opens the season Tuesday at 6A Laredo United South.
