ROBSTOWN, Texas — The area's latest professional team, the Coastal Bend Tidal Wave, made their home debut Thursday where they fell to the Texas Smoke 4-2 at Fairgrounds Field.
The Tidal Wave are the newest team in the Women's Professional Fastpitch softball league, or WPF. The staff has been getting the facility and especially the field ready for play over the last month since an agreement was reached with Nueces County to use the ballpark formerly known as Aviators Stadium.
The first hit at the home park came from Trinity Cannon in the first inning. Former Veterans Memorial Eagle Rock Benavides notched a base hit as well in front on several family members and friends.
The Tidal Wave dropped to 2-3 on the season after splitting their first ever series on the road last week. Coastal Bend once again will take on the defending league champion Smoke Friday at 6:30 PM as part of a four-game series that runs through Sunday.
*Correction: the broadcast had the Tidal Wave's opponent listed as the Texas Storm instead of the Smoke.
