PORTLAND, Texas — The Gregory-Portland softball team is looking to take it a step further this year after reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
The Ladycats were outside on the turf Friday battling the elements. G-P finished as the runner-up in the tough District 29-5A and reached the area round before the wheels fell off in a 23-1 loss to Mercedes in game three of the series.
Coach Felicia Talamantez says a key pitching injury and a lack of conditioning in the playoff heat lead to that brutal playoff exit. That conditioning was a major focus this offseason and will continue to be going forward.
G-P will play their home games at the Portland Sports Complex while their new facility is being built for next season.
