AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas Longhorns star Malcolm Brown is making a career change. After seven seasons in the NFL, Brown is trading in his helmet for a coaching headset. The two-time Super Bowl champion will be taking over as head coach at Austin's St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School.
"I'm excited to be here and take this job and lead this group," Brown said Wednesday. "This team will work hard each day to be the best."
Brown was drafted with the final pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He'd go on to help the Patriots to two Super Bowls, including their historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons.
Following his second championship, Brown signed a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. He would be traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars after two seasons in New Orleans. Brown played in all 17 games during his time in Jacksonville before he was released.
Brown, a Brenham native, spent three years with the Longhorns where he established himself as one of the best defensive tackles in the country. He won multiple awards at Texas and was nominated for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the best interior lineman, and named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the best defensive player in the country.
